Music for the film was composed by D. Imman. The cinematography was led by Velraj and the editing by Anthony. Principal photography commenced on 4 March 2015 and lasted for four months. ''Paayum Puli'' was shot predominantly in and around Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu in 75 working days. The film, along with its Telugu dubbed version titled ''Jayasurya'', was released on 4 September 2015 worldwide.
==Plot==
The city of Madurai is rife with the nefarious activities of a group of thugs, who kidnap local businessmen, extort money from them and kill them if they cannot pay the amount or complain to the police about them. These extortionists even kill policemen who dare to take action against them, including Albert (Harish Uthaman). Jayaseelan (Vishal), a police officer, is posted the new ACP of Madurai and works undercover to rid the city of these extortionists.
Jayaseelan falls in love with Sowmya (Kajal Aggarwal), a young woman who is afraid of everything, including crossing the road and taking U-turns. He kills a rowdy, who has an eye on Soumya, in front of her. This rowdy happened to be one of the extortionists Jayaseelan is after. However, Soumya, who is unaware about Jayaseelan's mission, registers a case of murder against him with the police. When she finds out the truth, she reciprocates Jayaseelan's love.
It is soon revealed to the audience that the mastermind behind the extortions and murders is none other than Jayaseelan's elder brother Selvam (Samuthirakani), a local politician. Inspired by his grandfather Ramaswamy, a famous freedom fighter and politician who was loved by all, Selvam entered politics, but after witnessing the money power involved in politics, he turned to kidnapping and extorting money from businessmen, feeling that he could become a successful politician only by illegally acquiring money. He manages to hide his duplicity from his family and kills people who find out his true face. However, on further investigation, Jayaseelan finds out, to his horror, about Selvam's role in the kidnappings and murders of the businessmen. He even witnesses Selvam kidnapping and threatening to kill their own father because he had found out about Selvam's duplicity and had tried to inform Jayaseelan about it. Jayaseelan rescues his father and brings him home. On his father's advice, he kills Selvam because arresting him for his heinous crimes would bring shame to the descendants of Ramaswamy. Four local goons accept to take the blame for Selvam's murder and the crimes he had committed. The movie ends with Jayaseelan killing those goons in a staged encounter.
